This page covers the WATnow Chrome extension and this website. WATnow is made by Eric Zou, a student at the University of Waterloo. If anything here is unclear, email eric@ugmi.ca.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data or share it with anyone. WATnow has no ads, and nothing it reads is used to train AI models.

What the extension reads

WATnow reads your courses and deadlines from your school's course site, the one you pick when you set it up. At Waterloo that's Learn. It does this inside your own browser, using the session you're already signed in with. It never sees your password or your two-factor codes.

If you connect Crowdmark, WATnow also reads your Crowdmark assignments, their due dates and whether you've handed them in. It doesn't read your scores. Crowdmark stays off until you select Connect Crowdmark in the side panel and allow it in Chrome.

It only makes read requests. It doesn't submit work or change anything in your courses. These are the only sites it can read. It can read Learn from the moment you install it. For every other site on this list, Chrome asks you first.

What stays on your computer

Everything WATnow reads is saved in your browser's extension storage on your computer. That includes your course names, deadline titles and dates, which items you've submitted or checked off, and your reminder and appearance settings. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

To remove it, open the WATnow settings and click Delete my data, or uninstall the extension. Uninstalling removes everything WATnow saved.

The one thing the extension sends

WATnow sends an anonymous count to Umami, the analytics service this website also uses. One when you install it, one each time you open the side panel, and one a day, the first time you use it that day. Each count includes a random ID made when you install, the extension version, the date you installed it, how many days old your install is, your browser language and your screen size.

The random ID isn't tied to your name, email or school account. It lets us see how many people install WATnow and whether they keep using it after the first week. The counts never include anything from your courses.

Debug reports

The settings page has a button that copies a debug report, for when something doesn't read correctly. The report lists the requests WATnow made and what came back, including course codes and item titles. Your name, email, student number and username are removed. The report is only copied to your clipboard. It goes nowhere unless you paste it into a message yourself.

This website and the waitlist

This website counts visits with Umami, which doesn't use cookies. If you join the waitlist, the form is run by Tally and stores your email and the answers you give. We use your email to tell you about WATnow and nothing else. Ask at eric@ugmi.ca and we'll delete it.
